Effect of Austenite Grain Size on the Bainitic Transformation in a 690 MPa Grade High-Strength Multi-Functional Construction Steel

A high-strength low-carbon construction structural steel was investigated in the laboratory. The various austenite grain sizes were obtained by austenitizing at different temperatures. effect of size on bainite transformation studied dilatometer. results show that microstructure steels mainly includes granular bainite, lath-like and martensite-austenite (M-A). changes from to with increase temperature or size. When samples heated lower 860 °C, starting relatively high, which attributed promotion bainitic nucleation formation solute-depleted regions austenite. Compared 1260 rate specimen austenitized 1000 °C is highest because small prior larger driving force.
